Notes

This was one of the most enjoyable composing projects I've ever done. Originally I designed various sound effects for each of the "aliens" within the game. The point was to try to capture some of the cheesy sci-fi sound we associate with classic 50's alien invasion movies. Fake retro is very in fashion these days - think of a T-shirt featuring a faded "populuxe" ad for a beer joint or minor league softball team that never existed.

Once I was finished with the sound effects, I thought it would be fun to try to use these sounds as source material for a larger work. The result is the kitchen sink of borrowed sounds, old school synth patches, and original pop melodies featured here. It traces the hero's sonata allegro journey: grand entrance, obstacles and complications, eventual trumph.

As an additional piece of layering, I managed to shove in a few melodies originally created for computer games developed at Sesame Street in the early 80's. That was where I first met the Future Pastimes crew and wrote some of the music for their early games, including "The Argos Adventure", and "Lords of Conquest".
